LeadingAge

THE CHALLENGE

In 2016, LeadingAge (a national association supporting non profit aging services providers) named a new CEO: Katie Smith Sloan. LeadingAge is a successful organization and Katie Smith Sloan recognized the need to capitalize on massive opportunities in front of the organization. She also recognized that LeadingAge would need to address the needs and opportunities inherent in a society’s growing aging population.

THE APPROACH

Katie Smith Sloan brought in THRUUE to conduct a strategic assessment and facilitate the creation of a transformative strategic plan for the organization. Using a data-driven approach that included our unique culture measurement methodology, THRUUE facilitated the work of twenty-one board members, ninety staff members, and five hundred members to create a new mission, vision, set of core values, and strategic plan with metrics. THRUUE also facilitated more than one hundred hours of small-group dialogues with staff to translate the board’s strategic direction into action plans.  With a clear path established for how to move forward amid disruption and change, the leadership team began thinking differently and operating with a common purpose.

THE RESULT

After six-months filled with many powerful discussions, Katie Sloan and the LeadingAge board declared a new mission and vision to guide LeadingAge’s meaningful work with aging services organizations across America.

Mission: “To be the trusted voice for aging.”

Vision: “An America freed from ageism.”

THRUUE’s work with our organization was inspiring. They helped us think deeply and courageously. Their approach was provocative and demanding, leading us to think differently about ourselves and the contribution we can make. Our way is paved for an exciting future." - Katie Sloan, CEO, LeadingAge
